Prospect High School
Recycled Cycles provides students basic training in bicycle mechanics and repair. Students repair, restore, and recycle all types of used bicycles that are donated to the program. Students will learn to identify the parts and functions of those parts on a variety of different bicycle styles and components. Students will learn to properly repair or replace parts using both common handheld tools and bike specific tools and how to maintain a bicycle so that it functions properly and safely. The course also highlights the importance and practicality of recycling within the program and on the school grounds in general. Students have the opportunity to purchase refurbished bikes or earn a bike through earning a total of 10 Credits in a block. Completed bikes are typically donated to local community organizations, given to students in need of transportation through Prospect’s outreach consultant, or sold at a very fair price. All proceeds go back into the program.
